Special Session on Feature extraction for information retrieval

There is a rich literature of approaches to feature extraction in statistical analysis, signal processing, computer vision, pattern matching and data mining. In recent years this trend has gone into an increasing attention as complex Web based Information Systems were available, and those techniques had been used for information retrieval purposes, i.e in CBIR (the Content Based Image Retrieval). All the topics related to feature extraction, including feature construction, space dimensionality reduction, sparse representations, and feature selection have been applied in a wide range of domains in both scientific and technical fields, including bioinformatics, medicine, biology, chemistry, text processing, pattern recognition, speech and multimedia processing, vision. Our guess is that in the next generation Web Services Feature Extraction will continue to be an active research topic of interest.

This special session will explore different challenges involved in the Feature Extraction process for several kinds of heterogeneous data, taking in consideration the most appropriate techniques that could be applied to the Information Retrieval. The purpose of this special session is to bring together researchers of various application domains to share techniques and methods, and to contribute to the diffusion of new approaches.

Submissions and Important Dates

Submissions will follow NWeSP format requirements and accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings and fully indexed by IEEE Xplore.Authors of this special session have to send an email to pere.marti@uvic.cat after submitting the paper through easychair, in order to confirm the submission to the special session.
